Rigid Resin is an Engineering Resin designed for stiffness and precision. The material is reinforced with glass to offer a very high modulus and a polished finish. Rigid Resin is highly resistant to deformation over time. The glass-powder reinforcement enables Rigid Resin to be stiff relative to other Formlabs materials.
Resin Tank LT is required for printing with Rigid Resin. Rigid Resin prints at 50 and 100 micron layer heights on the Form 2.

Comparison with Other Materials
Rigid Resin is comparable to other glass-filled thermoplastics. When compared to parts printed with other Formlabs materials, parts printed with Rigid Resin resist mechanical stress over a longer period of time. Stiffness is a measure of a material’s resistance to elastic deformation under stress. Due to the high degree of stiffness, Rigid Resin parts are more brittle than parts printed with Tough Resin or Durable Resin.

Printing with Rigid Resin
Rigid Resin follows the same basic steps and requirements for printing as other Formlabs materials. There are a few specific considerations to remember for Rigid Resin:
- Use Resin Tank LT when printing with Rigid Resin. Standard resin tanks are incompatible with Rigid Resin because the elastic layer in a standard resin tank swells when exposed to the uncured material.
- Rigid Resin prints at 50 and 100 micron layer heights on the Form 2. Choose the layer height when preparing the FORM file in PreForm.
- Compared to parts printed with Standard Resins, parts printed with Rigid Resin offer similar accuracy and strong dimensional stability. Rigid Resin can print geometries that are slightly thinner than geometries printable with Standard Resins.
- Rigid Resin may emit a light, pine-like scent during printing or handling. The scent is normal and non-toxic.
Wash parts printed in Rigid Resin in Form Wash for 15 minutes. After washing parts in IPA, allow the parts to dry completely before post-curing.
To maintain consistent surface appearance for different materials, wash parts printed with Rigid Resin in a separate bucket from parts printed with other materials. After washing multiple parts printed with Rigid Resin, the IPA contains white glass particles from uncured Rigid Resin. Use a separate wash bucket for parts printed with Rigid Resin to prevent the white glass particles from depositing on the surfaces of parts printed with other resin types.
Parts printed with Rigid Resin may be more difficult to remove from the build platform than parts printed with Standard Resins. To improve part removal, warm the build platform with heated air.
