Fine Tuning is an advanced troubleshooting feature on the Form 2. Adjust Fine Tuning settings to correct any consistent, small-scale dimensional errors or to mitigate model adherence issues.
Access Fine Tuning options on the Form 2 touchscreen by selecting Settings located in the Your Printer menu.
Build Platform Height
The Z Fine Tuning setting changes the “Z Offset” value to adjust the distance between the build platform and the bottom of the resin tank. Adjust the Z Offset value by up to 1.0 mm in either direction in increments of 0.1 mm.
Increase (“+”) the Z Offset value to raise the build platform further away from the resin tank bottom.
Decrease ("-") the Z Offset value to lower the build platform closer to the resin tank bottom.
When to increase the Z Offset value
Increase the Z Offset value when models print consistently with very thin bases even after the base height has been increased through Advanced Support settings. Increase the Z Offset value to raise the build platform further away from the resin tank bottom. Raising the build platform provides more space for the base to build.
Adjust the Z Offset value in increments of 0.1 mm. Print small models to test the change and continue to adjust the Z Offset value until models print with consistent support rafts.
When to decrease the Z Offset value
If models never adhere to the build platform and both the resin tank window and the glass optical window are clean, lower the build platform closer to the resin tank bottom. Small adjustments to the build platform height can help models adhere and build correctly.
The X/Y Fine Tuning option adjusts the scaling factor in the printer’s X and Y axes. When you adjust the scale, the Form 2 stretches or compresses the laser’s path in the X and Y directions by the specified amount. The default value is 100.0%.
Modify the value in increments of 0.10% and up to 5% stretching ("+") or compression ("-") in either direction. Through adjustments, the printed model can reach a maximum 105% or a minimum 95% of its designed width and depth.
X/Y Fine Tuning is an advanced feature. Use the X/Y Fine Tuning tool to correct any consistent discrepancies in measurement between the model's design and printed results.
In the X/Y Fine Tuning feature on the Form 2, the X-axis refers to the left-to-right direction on the build platform. The Y-axis refers to the front-to-back direction.
When to Contact Formlabs Support
If models consistently print with dimensions skewed by more than 5% in the X or Y direction, never adhere, or shift location on the build platform, reset all Fine Tuning settings to default values and send us a support ticket.
